Boris Johnson is reportedly considering shutting down the north of England as cases skyrocket in many areas. Manchester now has 561 cases per 100,000 people, up from 261 the week before, making it the most infected city in the UK. Liverpool and other cities in the north have also seen huge increases in virus cases, with many places seeing over 500 cases per 100,000 people. The UK has 125 cases per 100,000, with most new cases appearing in the north of England. According to newspaper reports Downing Street is considering going further than the current restrictions in place and implementing a tighter lockdown. Over 20 million people across Britain are in local shutdowns, meaning on top of national restrictions such as the rule of six and curfews for pubs and restaurants, other rules are in place such as restricting households from mixing. Pubs and restaurants may be forced to close in northern areas and people will be told to stay at home to slow the spread of the virus. However the government is determined to keep schools and most businesses open. On Tuesday 71 people died from coronavirus in Britain and 14,542 new cases were recorded. Meanwhile Boris Johnson delivered his speech at Conservative Party Conference promising Britain can see off COVID-19.
