Subscribe to our channel! rupt.ly/subscribe Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said that Beijing was "researching the appropriateness of participating" in the COVAX global vaccine facility, in the Chinese capital on Tuesday. "I want to emphasise that China firmly supports the health construction of developing countries and actively implements its commitment to vaccines' public production," added Zhao. He also commented that "some individual politicians in the United States regard the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government as heretics in a vain attempt to engage in ideological crusades with sinister intentions." "As long as China follows the road of independent and peaceful development, as long as it does not follow the path designed by the United States, they will regard China as an eyesore and oppose China," he continued. Some 172 countries are already participating in the COVAX facility, which is a joint initiative of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance (GAVI). The pact aims to ensure that poorer nations don't lose out on access to any coronavirus vaccines or treatments, as member nations agree to pool their resources with the aim of delivering two billion doses of an effective and approved vaccine by the end of 2021.
