  1. This is old news. I did a research paper on it the Liberty incident when I was in college. They had been warned away from the war zone but the captain of the Liberty claimed he never received the instructions. The Israelis could’ve easily sunk the unarmed boat, but what they were evidently trying to do was destroy its intelligence gathering capability. They were shooting the antennae and other electronics off the top of the ship. To make matters even more confusing, when Tel Aviv wired Washington and asked why the US had a ship off the coast of Egypt during a Middle East war, they were told there was no American ship there. So, it was a comedy of errors and Israel ended up paying reparations to many of the Liberty families as a result. See what a difference context can make in a story like this?
